Opinion | Passing on Donner (Cont'd)

Robert L. Teter ["Passing on Donner," Free for All, Dec. 29] claims that "Clement C. Moore, who wrote 'A Visit from St. Nicholas,' " wrote "Donder," not "Donner," as the name of Santa's seventh reindeer. Furthermore, he takes your Dec. 23 Metro section to task for giving "Donner" as what he says is the incorrect answer to the weather trivia question, "What mountain pass shares a name with one of Santa's reindeer?" With all due respect, it is Teter who is incorrect, along with everyone else in America who spells or pronounces the name as "Donder." This includes Ann Landers, who mentioned "Donder and Blitzen" in a recent column, and Hollywood screenwriters who often get it wrong, as in "Ernest Saves Christmas."
